Victoria Jones is the motivated driving force behind tap dance in the Las Vegas community. She founded Sound Steps Dance Company, a local dance organization offering training classes, performances, and educational and outreach programs spotlighting percussion dance disciplines. Sound Steps also produces two major dance festivals a year, Las Vegas Tap Fest in May and Rhythm X Project in September.
Jones' dance career began in grade school at the Emerson School of Visual and Performing Arts in Gary, Indiana. She trained and studied all forms of dance, specializing in tap with M.A.D.D. Rhythms in Chicago. In 2007, she relocated to Las Vegas before serving five years in the United States Army National Guard for Nevada. When she returned to Las Vegas, she re-energized her dance career.
In 2013, Jones was featured in “MeatLoaf’s Rocktellz and Coctailz” at Planet Hollywood on the Las Vegas Strip. A skilled promotional model, showgirl, production assistant, and hair designer, in addition to being an accomplished dancer and teacher, Jones is signed by several dance and modeling agencies that employ her at conventions, special events, and performance productions. Among various agencies representing Victoria is BEST Agency Las Vegas. Since her teaching career began in 2003 at Beachfront Dance School, Jones has expanded to more than 20 dance studio and schools, where she teaches tap, hip hop, and other contemporary forms of percussion dance.
She is especially adept at “hoofing,” a street style form of tap dance in the tradition of Sammy Davis Jr., Gregory Hines, and today’s Savion Glover. Another of her dance specialties is hip-hop, in which she trained with leading edge dancers in Hollywood and Las Vegas. Several of her trainers work as choreographers for mega-star performers like Beyoncé, Usher and Chris Brown.
Jones has also taught as several Tap Festivals around the World to include Belo Horizonte in Brazil, Chicago, Phoenix, Utah, and of course at her own festival in Las Vegas.
Jones' primary interest is teaching and inspiring kids of all ages. Among the special youth programs she has worked for are After School All-Stars and Excite Dance. Her company’s programs like Sound Off! After school program, Up With Tap community performances, and Tap Matters Academy engage youth from ages 5 to 18 in dance instruction and performance skills, Her Community Tap-In program offers “informances” (inform+perform) at senior centers, retirement homes, shelters, hospitals, churches, and other local facilities.
Jones continues to teach in the Clark County School District, in dance studios, and in partnership with other organizations. She currently teaches and trains at Prodigy Dance Training Center in Las Vegas and can be located at Millennium Dance Complex, a viral dance studio brand on social media. Her professional goal is to make her very own dance organization a vibrant cultural force in Las Vegas.
