Comstock Wabi Sabi Art Exhibition
July 3, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Free
Brian Schorn’s exhibition “Comstock Wabi-Sabi” will be on view at the Silver City School House on Sunday, July 3 from noon to 6 pm during the Silver Palooza Music and Art Festival.
Comstock Wabi-Sabi is comprised of two dozen assemblages that Schorn created using both found and natural materials while he was an artist-in-residence in Silver City, Nevada in 2015. Since then, the collection of artwork has been featured in eight solo shows in Nevada in venues such as Truckee Meadows Community College. Schorn explains that when he was collecting materials around Silver City, he “realized that the Japanese aesthetic of ‘wabi-sabi’ was abundantly present in the landscape. This aesthetic recognizes the beauty in objects that are faded, worn and rusted, while embracing their impermanence and imperfection. This series celebrates the wabi-sabi aesthetic and acknowledges the region’s history, culture and environment.”
In addition to Brian Schorn’s exhibition, the Silver Palooza Music & Art Festival, presented by the Silver City Arts group and the Silver City Preservation Society, features music with popular Reno band “Drinking with Clowns”, Tahoe singer/songwriter Darren Senn and others, plus food, beverages, a cake walk, a laser engraving booth, games, and more.
Donations for the noon to 6pm event are encouraged and go to the Silver City Preservation Society, a nonprofit.
