SUMMARY:Para las Hijas Mayores (for the Eldest Daughters)
DESCRIPTION:Clark County Public Art Presents Para las Hijas Mayores (for the Eldest Daughters) by Yazmin Garcia. This exhibition explores the responsibilities\, expectations\, and histories carried by eldest daughters. Drawing from her experience as a first-generation Mexican American\, Garcia reflects on growing up as the helper\, caregiver\, protector\, and peacekeeper. Through mixed-media paintings rooted in personal and family experiences\, she moves through identity\, sacrifice\, ancestry\, grief\, motherhood\, healing\, and community. \nGarcia describes each painting as its own story and the exhibition as a complete book. At its center is the realization that healing is not a destination\, but a path toward belonging. By looking at what has been inherited and choosing what to carry forward\, Para las Hijas Mayores creates space to slow down\, reflect\, and recognize pieces of ourselves in the experiences of others. \nPara las Hijas Mayores is the first exhibition of SOLO SERIES FY27\, a Clark County Public Arts program providing four local emerging and under-recognized artists with the opportunity to present solo exhibitions at Pearson Community Center Gallery.

SUMMARY:Nevada Shakespeare Festival presents The Taming of the Shrew
DESCRIPTION:Nevada Shakespeare Festival\, in partnership with the city of Las Vegas\, is bringing a free\, full-scale production of “The Taming of the Shrew” to the Sammy Davis Jr.  Festival Plaza at Lorenzi Park (720 Twin Lakes Drive) for three nights only: Thursday\, Oct. 22 through Saturday\, Oct. 24. \nWith a 12-person cast and a full 2.5-hour running time\, this is the same mainstage-caliber production Nevada Shakespeare Festival is known for. Shakespeare’s fierce\, funny battle-of-the-sexes farce\, adapted with the festival’s signature punk-rock energy\, this time staged entirely outdoors and completely free. \nPerformances are general admission and free to attend. No tickets or reservations required. Organizers expect crowds of up to 400 each night\, so guests are encouraged to arrive early\, spread a blanket or set up low-back chairs\, and purchase food and drink from the on-site food truck “Tacos La Estancia” before the show begins. No glass containers or pets are allowed. Free tickets can be reserved at NSF Presents the Taming of The Shrew.
