SUMMARY:Flux1: A College of Southern Nevada traveling exhibition featuring the work of Sherry Watkins - North Las Vegas
DESCRIPTION:The College of Southern Nevada\, School of Arts & Letters\, and Department of Fine Arts will host a traveling exhibition of acrylic paintings by Nevada-based artist and College of Southern Nevada Performing Arts Center box office supervisor\, Sherry Watkins. Flux1: A College of Southern Nevada traveling exhibition featuring the work of Sherry Watkins\, will open on Tuesday\, July 1\, 2025\, and will travel throughout the Las Vegas Valley with showings on the CSN Henderson Campus (July 1\, 2025 – Oct. 31\, 2025)\, the Charleston Campus (Nov. 1\, 2025 – Feb. 28\, 2026)\, and the North Las Vegas Campus (March 1\, 2026 – June 30\, 2026). A special Gallery Talk and Artist Reception with light refreshments will take place on Wednesday\, March 4\, 2026\, at 6 p.m. in the North Las Vegas Campus\, Tyrone Thompson Student Union Art Gallery. The CSN Student Union Art Galleries are free\, family-friendly\, and open to the public. \nOriginally from Illinois\, Sherry Watkins has lived in Las Vegas for nearly 50 years. She attended Clark High School\, the University of Nevada\, Las Vegas\, and the College of Southern Nevada. Watkins has been painting for over a decade\, working primarily in abstract styles. Her work explores various techniques\, including fluid pouring and original design methods. Watkins uses a wide range of tools and materials to achieve distinctive effects and embraces experimentation and creative risk in her process. While she occasionally paints traditional subjects—such as characters\, still lifes\, and landscapes—Watkins is most drawn to the expressive freedom of abstraction. \nSpeaking of her work\, Watkins states\, “Most of my work comes from trial and error\, a willingness to explore new methods\, opening my boundaries to include what I might not at first be comfortable with\, and sometimes just pure luck. I enjoy the freedom of abstract art. I like the power of creating something that did not previously exist. I have AD/HD. When I was doing more “traditional” painting\, such as still life and landscapes\, I ended up with a lot of unfinished paintings. I would be on to the next idea before finishing what I was working on. With abstract art\, only the artist knows when it is truly finished. Abstract art gave me the freedom to be able to paint without the anxiety of not completing my work and leaving paintings half done.” \nThe CSN Student Union Art Galleries are free\, family-friendly\, and open to the public. Gallery hours vary by campus and semester. Please visit https://www.csn.edu/student-unions for current hours of operation. \nFor more information\, please call 702-651-4146 or visit https://www.csn.edu/artgallery

SUMMARY:Prairie Princess/Desert Dandy A College of Southern Nevada traveling exhibition featuring the work of Lauren Myers Reese - Charleston
DESCRIPTION:The College of Southern Nevada\, School of Arts & Letters\, and Department of Fine Arts is now hosting a traveling exhibition of text-based paintings by Nevada-based artist and College of Southern Nevada adjunct faculty\, Lauren Myers Reese. Prairie Princess / Desert Dandy: A College of Southern Nevada traveling exhibition featuring the work of Lauren Myers Reese\, opened on Tuesday\, July 1\, 2025\, and will travel throughout the Las Vegas Valley with showings on the CSN North Las Vegas Campus (July 1\, 2025 – Oct. 31\, 2025)\, the Henderson campus (Nov. 1\, 2025 – Feb. 28\, 2026)\, and the Charleston campus (March 1\, 2026 – June 30\, 2026). A special Gallery Talk and Artist Reception with light refreshments will take place on Thursday\, Feb. 19\, 2026\, at 6 p.m. in the Henderson Campus Student Union Art Gallery. The CSN Student Union Art Galleries are free\, family-friendly\, and open to the public. \nLauren Myers Reese is an artist\, educator\, and arts administrator\, and currently serves as an adjunct faculty member in the Art & Art History Program at the College of Southern Nevada. Reese received his Master of Fine Arts in visual art from the University of Nevada\, Las Vegas in 2022 and his Bachelor in Fine Arts in Studio Art from the University of Oklahoma\, Norman\, in 2012. Reese is a co-founder of the Vegas Institute for Contemporary Engagement\, a research lab for art and experimentation. Before attending UNLV\, Reese worked in a variety of roles\, including independent curator\, arts writer\, nonprofit administrator\, factory worker\, educator\, and art gallery director. Reese’s visual work has been shown across the United States\, Canada\, Mexico\, Scotland\, Estonia\, and Colombia. His writings are found in the Jewish Studies Journal\, Art Focus Oklahoma\, Southwest Contemporary\, and Settlers and Nomads. \nSpeaking of his work\, Reese states\, “This body of work layers texts from a variety of sources on the history of Nevada. These books focus on early and pre-Statehood Nevada\, as well as contemporary issues like gendered work\, sexuality\, labor rights\, and equality as it relates to the recent history of Las Vegas and Nevada. Combining historical nonfiction and accounts of the Las Vegas and Nevada area pre- and post-statehood\, the work layers text to create alternative narratives\, and puts a highlight on the missing parts of the narratives from traditional histories of the West. By layering texts from both historical first-hand accounts\, primary sources\, and contemporary artists living in Las Vegas\, the words combine and layer to create a miasma of time. Time collapses as texts from a variety of writers and eras are layered on top of each other. It is a reimagined story and historical fiction told through the spaces between the words.” \nThe CSN Student Union Art Galleries are free\, family-friendly\, and open to the public. Gallery hours vary by campus and semester. SUMMARY:All That You Ever Wanted/Todo Lo Que Siempre Quisistes: A College of Southern Nevada traveling exhibition featuring the work of Orlando Montenegro - Henderson
DESCRIPTION:The College of Southern Nevada\, School of Arts & Letters\, and Department of Fine Arts will host a traveling exhibition of mixed media artworks by Central American-born\, Nevada-based artist and College of Southern Nevada adjunct faculty\, Orlando Montenegro. All That You Ever Wanted/Todo Lo Que Siempre Quisistes: A College of Southern Nevada traveling exhibition featuring the work of Orlando Montenegro\, will open on Tuesday\, July 1\, 2025\, and will travel throughout the Las Vegas Valley with showings on the CSN Charleston campus (July 1\, 2025 – Oct. 31\, 2025)\, the North Las Vegas campus (Nov. 1\, 2025 – Feb. 28\, 2026)\, and the Henderson campus (March 1\, 2026 – June 30\, 2026). A special Gallery Talk and Artist Reception with light refreshments will take place on Thursday\, Nov. 13\, 2025\, at 6 p.m. in the North Las Vegas Campus Tyrone Thompson Student Union Art Gallery. The CSN Student Union Art Galleries are free\, family-friendly\, and open to the public. \nSpeaking of his life\, Montenegro says\, “I was born in Central America in the early 1980s. My father was a lawyer\, and he got into some trouble\, and my mother was an accountant\, and she did not like the government at the time. They immigrated to the United States sometime in the late 80s because it seemed better economically\, and they ended up working in casinos. I have two younger siblings who are nurses\, and they are also married to nurses. I once almost passed out giving blood and looking at a documentary where there was blood\, and I was not good at math in school\, but I liked to draw. My Spanish vocabulary is not that good\, but I can speak and read some of it at a basic level. I prefer to talk in English if I have to. It’s impressive how people can interpret words and images differently when they see things from their own point of view\, and how their upbringing\, education\, and beliefs affect that point of view.” \nRegarding his work\, Montenegro continues\, “We live in the richest country in the world\, but it’s a pyramid scheme. I had surgery with insurance and paid an inflated amount\, only to get another bill in the mail. I wish we had decent public transportation because gas is expensive\, and people drive irresponsibly. I wanted to rent\, but my mortgage is cheaper because I moved into a house before the pandemic. Home insurance and car insurance are also a scam\, but I need them just in case. I don’t buy juice anymore\, or cereal\, or Mexican Coca-Cola. The price went up\, and my Doctor said I should eat fruit and I should just drink water\, because I need to worry about diabetes. He said juice is a scam. \nI started using things like newspapers and food packaging because they relate to consumption and the economy. Food packaging is discardable\, and it can be aesthetically pleasing depending on how it is designed. Advertisements can be beautiful or seductive\, but the food flyers that I get in the mail are not considered beautiful. I am not saying they are either. I see some graffiti around town while driving\, and I like the bold colors and line work. Some of it does not make sense and feels abstract or nonrepresentational. I don’t really remember what I thought when I first saw Andy Warhol’s soup can art in Professor Rico’s Art History class some twenty years ago. I am sure that at the time\, I thought the book and his lectures were all gobbledygook because “art is supposed to be beautiful”. \nThe CSN Student Union Art Galleries are free\, family-friendly\, and open to the public. Gallery hours vary by campus and semester. Please visit https://www.csn.edu/student-unions for current hours of operation. \nFor more information\, please call 702-651-4146 or visit https://www.csn.edu/artgallery.

SUMMARY:Flux1: A College of Southern Nevada traveling exhibition featuring the work of Sherry Watkins - Charleston

SUMMARY:Prairie Princess/Desert Dandy A College of Southern Nevada traveling exhibition featuring the work of Lauren Myers Reese - Henderson
SUMMARY:All That You Ever Wanted/Todo Lo Que Siempre Quisistes: A College of Southern Nevada traveling exhibition featuring the work of Orlando Montenegro - North Las Vegas
SUMMARY:Christine Knize: Orchidelirium
DESCRIPTION:The College of Southern Nevada\, School of Arts & Letters\, and Department of Fine Arts will host an exhibition of large-scale oil paintings by Florida-based artist Christine Knize. Christine Knize: Orchidelirium opens Friday\, Dec. 12\, 2025\, and runs through Saturday\, Feb. 14\, 2026\, in the Fine Arts Gallery on the North Las Vegas Campus of the College of Southern Nevada. A special gallery talk and artist reception\, with refreshments\, will take place on Friday\, Dec. 12\, 2025\, at 6 p.m. \nChristine Knize\, alumna of Tyler School of Art\, Bachelor of Fine Arts\, and Rhode Island School of Design\, Master of Fine Arts\, born in New York City\, inherited her artistic talent from two generations of women artists. Her academic journey led her to spend three years in Italy and France\, specializing in the Renaissance. Throughout her career\, Knize maintained a dual focus on painting and photography. In 1986\, she moved to Miami\, where she established a paint decoration company\, which drew the attention of numerous celebrities. Notably\, Knize dedicated years to the restoration of the Biltmore Hotel\, where she meticulously revived the hand-painted finishes adorning the lobby and ballrooms. She also played a role in the initial renovations of Miami Beach Art Deco hotels\, contributing to the preservation of historical landmarks. After three decades in Miami\, Knize embraced a new chapter in Jacksonville\, Florida\, where she channels her artistic energy into creating large-scale canvases of orchids. \nSpeaking of her work\, Knize says\, “I have forever been captivated by orchids\, the jewel-like flowers with vibrant colors and striking patterns. Each orchid possesses a unique personality compelling me to capture it on canvas. I approach these flowers as portraits\, often working on large-scale surfaces to honor their beauty and complexity. My technique draws inspiration from the European masters\, using oil paint\, brushes\, and multiple layers of translucent glazes\, without relying on other mediums or tools. This meticulous process results in realistic works\, some taking months to complete.” \nThe CSN Fine Arts Gallery is free\, family-friendly\, and open to the public. Gallery hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The Fine Arts Gallery is located adjacent to the Nicholas J. Horn Theatre Lobby on the North Las Vegas campus located at 3200 E. Cheyenne Avenue\, one mile East of I-15 North. \nFor more information\, please call 702-651-4146 or visit http://www.csn.edu/artgallery

SUMMARY:To The Left
DESCRIPTION:The College of Southern Nevada\, School of Arts & Letters\, and Department of Fine Arts in collaboration with the City of Henderson\, will host a multi media group exhibition by Nevada-based artists\, Aimee Coello\, Camile Lovaz\, Rose Miller\, Niko Navalta\, Jessica Samaniego\, Bella Sanabria\, Montaysia Yuneek\, and Arianna Zaremehrjardi titled To The Left in the Art Gallery at the City of Henderson’s Debra March Center of Excellence. To The Left will open on Friday\, Feb. 13\, 2026\, and run through Saturday\, June 20\, 2026. A special panel discussion and artist reception will take place on Thursday\, June 11\, 2026\, starting at 6 p.m. \nTo The Left explores the fertile ground between the tangible world and the limitless potential of “the possible.” By presenting a collection of alternative realities\, the exhibition serves as a portal into spaces where the rules of the everyday are rewritten. This multi-media group show bridges the gap between our current existence and the speculative futures or parallel dimensions envisioned by the artists. Each work functions as a unique snapshot of another universe\, woven together into an open narrative that challenges viewers to look beyond the horizon of their own reality and consider the radical potential of the imagined. \nThe exhibition features a diverse array of perspectives\, ranging from the surreal to the deeply personal. Navalta uses graphic narratives to replace human figures with rabbits\, exploring the darker facets of the human condition\, while Zaremehrjardi’s paintings navigate social conditioning through figures of ambiguous gender. Miller and Coello offer contrasting approaches to construction and escapism—Miller through the tactile layering of found imagery and Coello via an alter ego navigating deceptive\, child-like environments. Rounding out the collection\, Lovaz investigates the friction between the divine and the human\, using fictional muses to critique the cultural idolization of young Latinas. Together\, these artists transform the gallery into a fragmented map of worlds that might have been\, or may yet be. \nThe Debra March Center of Excellence is a partnership between the City of Henderson and the College of Southern Nevada. Located in West Henderson\, this facility is a critical feature for diversifying our industry by fulfilling a need for high-skilled\, advanced manufacturing training. This specialized training facility is a valuable resource for both businesses that want to relocate to the area\, as well as existing locally based companies looking to expand. The Center of Excellence is located in the burgeoning West Henderson area\, which boasts the popular Henderson Executive Airport and is home to a wide range of distribution centers\, corporate headquarters\, and industrial parks. \nThe CSN Arts Galleries are free\, family friendly\, and open to the public. Gallery hours of the Debra March Center of Excellence Art Gallery are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Debra March Center of Excellence Art Gallery is closed on Saturday and Sunday\, Nevada state holidays\, and between CSN academic terms. The Debra March Center of Excellence is located at 2200 Via Inspirada\, Henderson\, Nevada 89044. \n“This program/project was supported\, in part\, by the Nevada Arts Council\, a state agency\, which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts\, a federal agency\, and the state of Nevada.” \nFor more information\, please call 702-651-4146 or visit http://www.csn.edu/artgallery

SUMMARY:Old Stories Made New Artist Reception
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the artist reception of Old Stories Made New with Lee Lanier on January 30 from 6-9 p.m. \nLee Lanier is a contemporary painter from Boulder City\, Nevada. His colorful paintings breathe new life into historical\, literary and mythological characters. Stylistically\, he combines Renaissance tableaux with 20th-century commercial illustrations and a bit of durrealism. His inspiration comes from old stories that have survived the long march of time. In his own words\, he is “drawn to universal human themes such as life and death\, temptation and faith\, and creativity and industry. His end goal is to “create works of art that can be viewed multiple times while inspiring spirited conversations among groups of dissimilar viewers.” \nThis exhibition also includes an augmented reality component\, allowing viewers to experience the paintings through a lens that features new elements\, such as the creation process\, details of the original stories\, and further insights into the paintings’ varied iconography. \nThis is a free event with snacks\, drinks\, words from the artist and a talking magical fish! All are welcome.

SUMMARY:Planting Myself Here: Closing Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:About the Artist:\nJurissa is first-generation Nicaraguan-American\, originally from Miami\, Florida\, who has planted her roots in Las Vegas\, Nevada. Working primarily with oil and acrylic paint\, her work centers around themes of self-realization\, spirituality\, symbolism and family. Her creative practice is deeply rooted in personal healing and transmutation. Her art is influenced by her journey as a mother\, wife and woman\, in which she learned true generational change begins within. Jurissa intends for her art to be a mirror and invitation\, encouraging others to embrace their own journeys\, seek truth no matter how difficult\, and to hold onto hope even in moments of darkness. To her\, art is a call to integrity\, love and connection. \nExhibition Statement:\nPlanting Myself Here marks the emergence of Jurissa’s voice as an artist\, storyteller and vessel for transformation. This debut solo exhibition unfolds as a visual narrative where personal healing becomes a generational offering. A sacred beginning rooted in resilience\, reclamation\, and rebirth. Through bold symbolism\, sacred color and spiritual metaphor\, Jurissa explores the first movements of alchemy: turning pain into beauty\, survival into sanctity. Each work reflects a distinct chapter in her evolution: calling on ancestors\, tending to self\, honoring love\, envisioning joy for her lineage. The result is a body of work that holds complexity with tenderness and declares\, without apology\, that our very being is sacred. This is the beginning\, not just of an art career\, but of choosing to root\, to rise and to pass something beautiful on. \nReception Details: \nThursday\, Jan. 8 5:30-7:30 p.m.\nA closing reception celebration will be held with food and live entertainment. Free and open to the public.\n \nLocation:\nPearson Community Center\n1625 W. Carey Ave.\, North Las Vegas\, NV 89032 \nGallery Hours:\nOPEN Monday – Friday 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.\nSaturday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.\nClosed Sunday

SUMMARY:Art With Nature Art
DESCRIPTION:Nov. 17 – Dec. 23\, 2025  \nArt Reception: Nov. 20\, 2025\, 5-7 p.m.  \nArt with Nature places emphasis on the basics of art-making. This means engaging creatively with an ecological and no-waste approach – refuse\, reduce\, reuse\, recycle\, in that order of priority. Wildflower is an ecosystem of decentralized Montessori micro-schools that support children\, teachers\, and parents. Wildflower aspires to give all children and families the opportunity to choose high-quality\, beautiful learning environments as they follow life’s unfolding journey. Desert Peach Montessori School offers equitable access to a nurturing\, authentic Montessori environment. They inspire curiosity\, emotional intelligence\, and a love for learning while fostering independence\, peace\, and community.  \nThis exhibit will take place at the Gallery East.
