SUMMARY:Writing Across the Rainbow
DESCRIPTION:Writing Across the Rainbow is a virtual class via Zoom that provides the participants a unique opportunity to work with multiple writers in creating their own story.  A different queer writer will be brought in each week to co-facilitate and add trust to the class.\n•Week One will focus on the art of haiku and poetry writing using published examples as templates to write original works. Each participant will write their poems during class to various prompts\, and we will read the poems to each other with great affirmation.\n•Week Two will be on flash fiction and short stories using published examples as a template to their original work. We will begin with the writing prompt: Write about your scariest experience as a queer person or tell us about your happiest experience as a queer person. We will end with readings and affirmations.\n•Week Three will include creating a soul collage using it as a writing prompt.\n\nThis workshop is supported in part by the Nevada Arts Council\, the National Endowment for the Arts\, and in partnership with Sierra Arts Foundation.\n\nInstructor Jacci Turner is the author of thirteen indie books for middle grade children and young adults. She also has a book published by Harper Collins for grownups and has recently published her first non-fiction book. Jacci teaches writing classes through her local community college\, her three writing groups\, and with grants from the Nevada Arts Council\, and Sierra Arts Foundation\, where she is on the artist’s rosters. Jacci’s middle grade fiction\, Bending Willow\, was chosen by librarians to represent Nevada at the National Book Festival. Several of her books have been finalists in the Wishing Shelf Book awards. Jacci is a retired therapist\, enjoying more time to run a non-profit and write.
