Originally from Senegal\, N’Doye is well known for his wood burning expertise. This body of artwork honors the Dogon people in Mali\, who are known all over the world for their collectable wood carvings\, terra cotta\, and bronze sculptures. The Dogon bring a large-scale contribution to the art world and also to African Symbolism. \nThe Dogon region is now overrun by terrorists who have destroyed and vandalized artwork and historical archives in the name of religion. The unveiling ceremony is scheduled to take place on January 30\, from noon to 1 p.m.\, at the Winchester Dondero Cultural Center located at 3130 McLeod Drive near Desert Inn Road. \n“Valley of Harmony” is a great work that encapsulates the essence of the Winchester community and its distinctive style. The mural skillfully portrays the expansive and majestic landscape that envelops our city\, artfully punctuated by scenes of cultural activities unique to the Winchester-Dondero Cultural Center. \n“This mural is a testament to the rich tapestry of our community\, celebrating the diverse cultural activities and landscapes that make Winchester truly special\,” said Commissioner Segerblom. “’Valley of Harmony’ serves as a symbol of unity and pride for our residents.” \nThe artist Matthew Murphy will be present at the event to share insights into his creative process and the inspiration behind this exceptional piece. SUMMARY:Lee Lanier: You Write the Story
DESCRIPTION:Lee Lanier\, of Lee Lanier Paints Art Gallery located in the Arts Factory\, has created this interactive exhibit inviting viewers to write the narratives for his quirky\, acrylic paintings. Lanier created the exhibit based on his opinion that visitors to LLPAG often had more interesting interpretations of his paintings than he did. The characters in the paintings interact with surrounding objects or each other\, and are often based on mythological\, literary\, or pop-culture archetypes. Although these paintings are narrative in nature\, they present scenes midway through a particular tale so that the viewer can decide what is transpiring. \nARTIST STATEMENT \nI am fascinated with old stories. The inspiration for my works almost always starts with a historical\, literary\, and mythological character. Like Renaissance artists\, I weave complex narratives with multiple posed figures. I am drawn to universal human themes such as life and death\, temptation and faith\, and creativity and industry. DESCRIPTION:WORKSHOP \nPoetry & Poses: A Monthly Series with Emily Hoover \nWinchester Dondero Cultural Center \nSaturday\, January 27\, 2024 \n3:00 – 5:00 PM \n  \nYogis practice physical postures (called asanas) and breathwork (called pranayama) to prepare for meditation. Writing is one form of meditation. Poetry & Poses is a two-hour workshop series that blends breath with movement to help writers quiet their minds\, relieve tension in their bodies\, and let go of writer’s block. At the end of each movement and breathwork session\, writers of all genres will be given prompts for generating new creative work\, which will be adapted from yoga postures and mindfulness philosophies. All levels and bodies are welcome. Please bring a mat\, a folded towel or blanket\, and something to write with. Chairs will be provided. \nEmily Hoover is a widely published poet\, fiction writer\, and reviewer. She serves as a Lecturer of English at Nevada State University. The author of My Mother as a Serrano Pepper (Zeitgeist Press\, 2023) earned her 200-hour Kripalu Yoga teacher certification in 2013. She leads gender-affirming\, trauma-informed movement\, breathwork\, and meditation classes\, including chair and restorative yoga. \nPresented by Clark County Parks & Recreation and hosted by Clark County Poet Laureate Angela M. Inspired by the historical connection between the erhu (the two-string Chinese violin) and the four-stringed Wester violin – both essential leading instruments from which the group takes its  name — 6-WIRE was founded by violinist Xiang Gao and erhu master Cathy Yang. The two compose and perform contemporary\, classical\, chamber\, world and jazz music with remarkable pianist and composer\, Matthew Brower.
