SUMMARY:“Home Defined” Meg Pohlod Black Rock Press Fellowship Reception
DESCRIPTION:McKinley Arts & Culture Center \nGallery East \nJune 17 – July 26\, 2024 \nReception\, Tuesday\, July 9\, 2024\, 5-7 p.m. \n  \nGallery West\, located at McKinley Arts & Culture Center\, hosts fellow Meg Pohlod coming out of the Black Rock Press\, located at University of Nevada\, Reno. The works included are created with varying printmaking and letterpress techniques creating a cohesive yet diverse body of artwork. A statement from Meg about her practice is include below: \n“In my artistic practice\, I dive into the definition for ‘home’ — a place of belonging\, and an embodiment of identity. Through my work\, I navigate the landscapes of memory\, emotion\, and human connection\, seeking to unravel the intricate layers that define the concept of home. Each letter of the word home and composition of shapes\, becomes a pathway towards understanding\, as I invite viewers to join me on this journey. I aim to evoke the universal yearning for a place to call one’s own. My art serves as a motivation for contemplation\, sparking conversations about roots\, displacement\, and the essence of belonging in an ever-changing world. Ultimately\, my pursuit is not just to find home but to illuminate the complexity of the search itself.” \nBlack Rock Press publishes a range of literary\, visual and experimental materials that address the evolving nature of the book. Located within the Department of Art at the University of Nevada\, Reno\, Black Rock Press investigates the potential of the physical book as an art form through a variety of historical and contemporary methods that include letterpress printing and hand bookbinding\, in concert with modern digital processes. \nGallery East\, located at McKinley Arts & Culture Center is one of three galleries operated by the City of Reno.
