SUMMARY:Classix Series | Mendolssohn Violin Concerto
DESCRIPTION:SHOWTIMES: \nSaturday\, March 21\, 2026: Doors 6 p.m.\, Concert 7:30 p.m.  \nSunday\, March 22\, 2026: Doors 2:30 p.m.\, Concert 4 p.m.  \nLike a great masterpiece shaped by time and intellect\, the Reno Phil embarks on the pursuit of knowledge\, where music unfolds with curiosity\, discovery\, and profound insight. At the heart of the evening is Nathan Amaral\, the first prize winner of the 2024 Sphinx Competition\, whose artistry illuminates Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto—a work of exquisite elegance and fiery virtuosity\, as if the violin itself is searching for truth in every soaring phrase. The journey begins with Autumn Maria Reed’s Robin’s Eye View\, a vivid and imaginative exploration of the world from above. The night reaches its pinnacle with Brahms’ Symphony No. 1\, a work Robert Schumann once prophesied as part of Beethoven’s legacy\, declaring that Brahms\, wielding his “magic wand\,” would reveal “wondrous glimpses into the secret world of the spirits.” From its stormy opening to its triumphant\, hymn-like finale\, the symphony wrestles with struggle and revelation\, culminating in an exultant resolution—a testament to the brilliance that emerges when passion and intellect collide.   \nON THE PROGRAM  \nAutumn Maria Reed Robin’s Eye View\n Felix Mendelssohn Violin Concerto op. 64 in E minor  \n Johannes Brahms Symphony No. 1 op. 68 in C minor     \nTICKET INFORMATION   \nTickets for 2025-26 Classix Series concerts at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts can only be purchased at this time as part of a Classix 6-concert subscription package. Single tickets for the 2025-2026 Season go on sale Aug. 4\, 2025\, at 10 a.m. For information on group rates\, or other ticket discounts\, please visit the Reno Phil Ticket Information Site at renophil.com/ticket-info.

SUMMARY:Circus Freaks 8 - Our Showgirl Era
DESCRIPTION:Circus Freaks was born during Creator Christopher Childers’ time working with Cirque du Soleil. There was so much crossover talent\, and he wanted to showcase the things you didn’t see in the shows. Aerialists who could sing\, dancers who could perform aerial skills\, contortionists that were ballet dancers\, and acrobats who could do pretty much everything. He fondly often called them “Circus Freaks” because they trained mercilessly\, kept themselves insanely trim and incredibly flexible—working at their craft constantly. Shooting hoops\, jumping rope\, hand balancing each other\, stretching\, jogging\, lifting weights and singing! A rare group of freaks indeed! This years theme: “Our Showgirl Era” will feature not only the usual spectacular circus acts\, dancers\, singers and comedic shenanigans\, but we are bringing back some of the original dancers and Showgirls from Las Vegas’ classic Showgirl shows\, Les Folies Bergere and Jubilee! This will be one for the books! \nA steamy\, circus-driven variety show. Hugely artistic. Darkly sexy. Hilarious and outrageous. Colorful. Bawdy. Naughty. And always unpredictable.

SUMMARY:Local Authors Month Kickoff: Book Signings\, Readings and Q&A
DESCRIPTION:April Fools fun: people who are “in the know” are invited to bring gullible friends (especially teens!) to get a free book and have it signed by Mark Twain.\nThere are two different times to attend: 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. \nThe first 300 people will receive a free book! Twain will be impersonated by McAvoy Layne of Lake Tahoe. He is a hilarious and believable Twain who’s performed internationally and earned many awards.\nTwain and local author legend\, Todd Borg\, will sign books\, read from their books\, and answer questions. Plus\, at least 15 local authors will sign and mingle!\nThis prank kicks off April: Local Authors Month. Grassroots will showcase books from 100+ local authors (no joke)!

SUMMARY:Yari Ostovany – Paintings | Savage Mystic Gallery\, Reno | April 2–25\, 2026
DESCRIPTION:Savage Mystic Gallery in Reno\, Nevada\, is pleased to present “Yari Ostovany: Paintings\,” a solo exhibition of works by abstract painter Yari Ostovany\, on view April 2 through April 25\, 2026. \nOstovany’s paintings explore the expressive possibilities of abstraction through layered color\, gestural mark-making\, and luminous surfaces. Drawing on influences ranging from the spiritual traditions of Persian art and poetry to the legacy of Western abstraction\, his work creates contemplative visual spaces where intuition\, memory\, and presence converge. \nWorking primarily in oil on canvas\, Ostovany builds his paintings through successive layers of color and texture. Forms emerge\, dissolve\, and reappear across the surface\, suggesting shifting fields of energy\, atmosphere\, and light. \nOstovany studied art as an undergraduate at the University of Nevada\, Reno\, and received his Master of Fine Arts from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1995. His work has been exhibited widely in the United States and internationally\, including exhibitions in Paris\, London\, Cologne\, New York\, Los Angeles\, and Tehran. \nThe exhibition will conclude with an artist reception on April 25 from 6–9 p.m. Visitors will have an opportunity to meet the artist and view the exhibition on its final day. \nExhibition Details: \nYari Ostovany: Paintings\nSavage Mystic Gallery\n836 E Second Street\nReno\, NV 89502 \nApril 2 through April 25\, 2026\nArtist Reception: April 25\, 6–9 p.m. \nsavagemysticart.com\n775-444-4605
