SUMMARY:"Abstruse Reflection" An Exhibition of Artwork by Dana Nöllsch
DESCRIPTION:Our upcoming solo artist show will be Dana Nöllsch! So let’s take a peek into the vibrant world of Dana\, a creative force with roots in Reno\, Nevada\, whose work exudes a distinct “Reno Tint.” \n  \nDana’s artistic journey is a fusion of photography and digital painting\, crafting images that delve deep into emotions and perceptions. Influenced by a diverse array of artists ranging from Annie Leibovitz to Jackson Pollock\, Dana finds inspiration in the tranquility of meditation\, tapping into the boundless reservoir of creativity within. \n  \nFor Dana\, art isn’t just a passion; it’s a way of life\, permeating every corner of existence. From professional endeavors like creating marketing materials to personal explorations in collections\, Dana’s work resonates with audiences\, sparking feelings and conversations. \n  \nSuccess\, for Dana\, isn’t a fixed destination but a fluid evolution. As styles shift and evolve\, Dana finds solace in embracing the unknown with open arms. And while the professional art industry may pose challenges\, Dana tackles them head-on\, eager to learn and grow with each step. \nCritics and collectors alike have been intrigued by Dana’s work\, with Mark Gammon expressing admiration for the dynamic impact\, even if the meaning remains enigmatic. \nIn Dana’s world\, art isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s a conduit for expression\, a catalyst for introspection\, and a beacon of hope in an ever-changing world. So\, whether you’re a seasoned collector or a casual admirer\, immerse yourself in Dana’s creations and let them stir your soul. After all\, art is what you make of it\, and Dana’s work is ripe for interpretation. \nThe opening reception is on Saturday\, April 13th at 6 pm. \nThis show will hang in the gallery until May 15th.

SUMMARY:The Dysfunction of Food: On Food That Isn’t Beautiful or Comforting or Delicious with Kim Foster
DESCRIPTION:Kim Foster\, James Beard Award-winning Author of the forthcoming The Meth Lunches: The Care and Feeding of a Drug Addict\, St. Martin’s Press. \nIn this lecture\, Kim Foster will examine the ways food can signify and complicate dysfunction in Las Vegas\, for both individuals and communities – those with empty tables\, and those with full plates. \nWhat does food mean to people in addiction? Or psychosis? Or in jail? Or for people who don’t have kitchens? What should it mean to the rest of us? \nMost of us think about food as a conduit for connection it’s a cliché now: “Food brings us together” and “Food connects us.” The messages are everywhere. A sea of perfectly constructed social media food images floods our feeds daily. It’s all beautiful\, heavily curated\, intentional\, and privileged. The people eating are happy\, smiling\, and having a ball. It’s a monoculture of food happiness. Foster is a contributor to this culture as a food writer. \nBut food is also a conduit for disconnection\, stress\, family trauma\, and workplace abuse. In families\, the table\, the eating together\, the passing of plates may hold discomfort\, anxiety\, and anger. It brings up things that can\, in other environments\, be let go. For others\, the table holds scarcity\, an annihilating reminder of their poverty. Others still have food on their table\, but no one sitting next to them to share it. \nFood can be a way to control. And punish. And abuse. And a means to force people to conform. And\, there is having no food at all. \nFood is often a litmus test. What we are eating and how we are eating tells us something integral about how we are doing\, and what our lives are like. \nCo-sponsored by the Black Mountain Institute.

SUMMARY:Marty O'Reilly Live at The Virgil
DESCRIPTION:Explaining Marty O’Reilly’s music is like describing a dream. It feels familiar\, but at the same time unchartered. His songs sound bluesy but not blues\, folk but not folk\, soulful but not soul. Marty’s voice is beautiful and unique\, his lyrics stark yet lush over gritty electrified guitar\, melding beautifully into genre-defying music within the vast definitions of Americana. One can hear an urgency and complexity in the songs\, expressing something elemental and perhaps contradictory: love and anger\, joy and pain\, real and imagined.

SUMMARY:Apex Concerts: Spark of Genius
DESCRIPTION:Apex Concerts presents its Grand Season Finale with “Spark of Genius\,” a program with an all-star cast featuring violinists Stella Chen and Sean Lee\, violists Matthew Lipman and Milena Pájaro-van de Stadt\, as well as Apex co-Directors Dmitri Atapine and Hyeyeon Park. Works explored are all centered on the idea of what exactly is the spark of true inspiration and genius. Perhaps it is it the arrival of precocious maturity in the twenty-something year old Franz Schubert and his String Trio in B-flat Major. Or it may be the fervor and passion of the first love\, as exemplified by Joseph Suk and his Piano Quartet Op. 1. Or pure brilliance of the mind of Felix Mendelssohn\, one of classical music’s most celebrated prodigies\, who also achieved some of the most refined and ingenious craftsmanship as evidenced in his majestic String Quintet in D Major Op. 87.
