Gov. Joe Lombardo Declares October as Arts & Humanities Month in Nevada

Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo released an official proclamation declaring October as Arts and Humanities Month, the Nevada Arts Council and Nevada Humanities announced. This proclamation recognizes the work of Nevada Humanities and Nevada Arts Council, representing hundreds of cultural organizations across the state, in strengthening the lives of families and communities of Nevada. The proclamation states that Nevada, through the continued work of the Nevada Arts Council and Nevada Humanities, celebrates “the value and importance of culture in the lives of Nevadans and the health of thriving communities.”

In celebration of Arts and Humanities Month, the Nevada Arts Council and Nevada Humanities hold and support various events across the state that celebrate the arts and humanities.

Throughout October, Nevada Arts Council-supported programming and events across Nevada include “The Arts Within You,” an exhibit presented by the West Wendover High School; Brian Higgins’ “Home is Where” exhibit at the College of Southern Nevada, and the Nevada Arts Council’s Nevada Touring Initiative exhibits on display throughout Nevada. A complete listing can be found on the Nevada Arts Council website at nvartscouncil.org and on its calendar of events at nvartscouncil.org/events.

Nevada Humanities programs and events in October include the original exhibition At the Heart of Nevada: Basin and Range at the Nevada Humanities Program Gallery in Las Vegas; Las Vegas Writes Book Launch and Conversation with the Authors event in Las Vegas; Footsteps into Story: How Travel and Hiking Inspire Writing in Reno; the Las Vegas Book Festival; the online program Humanities at Play: Is This Seat Taken? with mariana moscoso; and additional events organized and hosted by partner organizations. The full list of events can be found on the Nevada Humanities website at nevadahumanities.org.

“National Arts and Humanities Month serves as a meaningful opportunity to recognize and celebrate the profound impact that the arts and humanities have on the lives of Nevadans,” said Tony Manfredi, executive director of the Nevada Arts Council. “Beyond their capacity for creative expression, the arts contribute significantly to individual well-being, educational enrichment, and economic vitality throughout our state. Through its grantmaking and programmatic initiatives, the Nevada Arts Council is dedicated to maintaining the arts as a cornerstone of Nevada’s economic, cultural, and civic life. We are equally committed to fostering the growth of authentic cultural tourism experiences that reflect Nevada’s rich and diverse heritage, helping these opportunities flourish across the state.”

“Arts and Humanities Month in Nevada highlights how important the arts and humanities are to Nevadans across the state. The humanities are key to how we share our stories and identities,” said Christina Barr, executive director of Nevada Humanities. “Nevada Humanities programs amplify local culture by sharing the stories, experiences, and creative expressions of Nevadans, bringing our humanity to the forefront of the Nevada experience. This is critical for nurturing a vibrant, resilient quality of life within the Silver State, and also for visitors who come to Nevada seeking experiences that are uniquely found here.”

Arts and Humanities Month in Nevada and National Arts & Humanities Month are celebrated every October and recognize the importance of culture and the arts in creating and sustaining healthy communities, uplifting individuals’ well-being, upholding a viable democracy, and connecting cultures across the country.
