Join Kantori of Faith Community Lutheran Church for Light Into the World: A Baroque Christmas, an afternoon of radiant choral and instrumental music celebrating the mystery and joy of Christ’s birth.
The program brings together three masterpieces of the Baroque era:
Antonio Vivaldi — Magnificat, RV 610
Mary’s song, “My soul magnifies the Lord,” set with Vivaldi’s characteristic brilliance, energy, and expressive warmth. Sung in Latin with English translations provided.
Heinrich Schütz — Weihnachtshistorie (Christmas Story), SWV 435
One of the earliest great musical settings of the Nativity story, Schütz’s Christmas Story combines vivid narration with expressive portrayals of the angels, shepherds, wise men, and other figures surrounding the birth of Christ. Sung in English.
Arcangelo Corelli — Concerto grosso in G minor, Op. 6, No. 8, “Fatto per la Notte di Natale” (Christmas Concerto)
Written for Christmas Eve, Corelli’s beloved instrumental concerto concludes with its famous pastoral movement, evoking the stillness and wonder of the Nativity.
Together, these works trace the Christmas story from proclamation and expectation to praise and peaceful reflection, offering a rich musical meditation on the Incarnation.
