Vogue Robinson

Vogue M. Robinson is a poet, writing consultant, and mentor. Robinson served as Clark County Poet Laureate (2017–2019) and is the first Black woman to receive the Nevada Writers Hall of Fame Silver Pen Award. She is the author of the poetry collection, V"ogue 3:16, Vol. 1." You can always expect humor, vulnerability, and empowerment in Robinson's poetry, performances, and workshops. Her company, Vogue 316, LLC, has a mission to nurture creativity in people of all ages, cultures, abilities, genders, and sexualities. Robinson fulfills this mission by offering grant consulting, poetry readings, and writing and art workshops. She is also faculty at the Martha’s Vineyard Institute for Creative Writing. Her work has been anthologized in The Beautiful, Sandstone and Silver, and A Change is Gonna Come. School & Community Workshops – All workshops can be condensed to 1-hour increments.
1. The Anatomy of a Poem (90 minutes): An introduction to poetry and key terms.
2. The Art of Poetry Slam (90 minutes): A study on poetry slam’s use of stage presence, confidence, and joy
3. Momma’s Gonna Buy You a Mockingbird (90 minutes): A poetry lesson on analogies, gratitude, and self-worth
4. A Poem is Worth a Thousand Words (90 minutes): A poetry lesson on the economy of language. This is an intermediate editing workshop
5. What’s in a Name? (90 minutes): This poetry writing workshop guides attendees through prompts that examine the origin of our names and nicknames and asks us to rename themselves.
6. Inside-Out: (90 minutes): A poetry workshop on connecting color and emotions
7. Poetry Slam 101 (90 minutes): An introduction to the structure, rules, strategy, and purpose of poetry slams.
8. The Writer’s Workshop (90 minutes): This workshop provides writing groups with a fresh external perspective and tools to speak about their members work objectively. We will also provide critiques when requested and probe each writer’s mind to ask them questions that lead them to meaningful conclusions about their work.
9. Writing a Personal Mission Statement: This 5 session workshop series is for anyone searching for clarity within their personal life, business, or creative work.
We will reflect on past work completed and analyze our motivations. Via brainstorming and believing in our wildest dreams, participants will write a personal mission statement in the form of a poem.
10. You Should Probably Be Editing – A 6-week poetry unit that turns editing techniques into interactive games.
