Call Summary 

To many, the very existence of humanity, figuratively and literally, is hanging by a thread.  From the nightly news, the existential threats include our democracy, our health, our ability to live on our planet. 

Artists from all disciplines can creatively make the passionate plea to change the story and change the culture to save our earth and humanity. We strive to collaborate and to  create a visceral and emotional experience that inspires the necessary adaptations in human behavior and industry to save our future. 

 We are looking for artists to bring their skills, knowledge, and experience as musicians,  dancers, directors, performers, actors, writers, and visual artists together to communicate the urgent necessity for transformational cultural change to address the threats to our existence from climate crisis of our planet to the breakdown of our society.

For artists selected, the delivery deadline is March 27, 2024  

Artist Eligibility  

• Artist(s) must be 18 years of age, (including students) and must still be breathing,  above ground, and have a pulse. 

Artwork Eligibility 

• All artwork must be original and be the artist’s creative output. No artwork generated by artificial intelligence will be accepted.
• All artwork must be able to fit through a standard door.
• If artwork is too small to be seen by the human eye, the artist must provide a magnification apparatus.
• Accepted artwork should be of the same quality and in pristine condition as depicted in the images submitted, or it will not be accepted and will be returned to the artist. • Artwork must be labeled with the artist’s name, contact information, title, media, and price or listed as NFS. Please be aware that Left of Center Art Gallery will take a % from the sale price. Please include this fee when pricing your artwork.
• All artwork accepted for the exhibition must remain displayed through the exhibit’s end.
• All 2D artwork must have D rings and wires.
• The artist agrees that Left of Center Art Gallery reserves the right to photograph the accepted artwork for documentation and promotional purposes.
• The artist is responsible for all costs associated with delivery and pick-up of the artwork, including shipping and insurance.

Application Requirements  

The following should be emailed to hangingbyathread.9.1@gmail.com by 11:13 pm on  February 27, 2024, with the subject title Hanging By A Thread Submission. Hardcopy packets, digital files, and CD-ROMs will not be accepted. 

Artists can submit up to three artworks. Each artwork can have a maximum of three images. 

1. Image Formats: png or jpg  
2. Resolution: not less than 150 dpi 
3. Image size limit – look to see what is current 
4. Image Title: Image #.Artist LastName/FirstName.Image

Selection Process  

This exhibit will be juried by Diane Bush www.dianebush.net and Denise R. Duarte  www.deniserduarte.com. Jurors will select the artwork that uniquely addresses the exhibit’s theme that best addresses our times. No artwork that is not submitted by the deadline will be considered. The jurors’ decisions are final. 

Timeline 

September 1, 2023: Call Disseminated 

February 27, 2024, by 11:13 pm: No submissions will be accepted after the deadline. April 9, 2024: Jury selects finalists. 

March 5, 2024: Artists will be notified if they are a finalist or not. Contracts will be  emailed to finalists. 

February 27, 2024, by 4 pm: Signed contracts due from finalists will be required prior to delivery of artwork to Left of Center Art Gallery, 2207 W Gowan Rd, North Las Vegas,  NV 89032.
