Hollywood Recreation Center Mural Call

Description of the designated area for the artwork: 

The site where the mural will be placed is located at 1650 S. Hollywood Blvd, Las Vegas NV 89142, it faces West, and it is visible from the road leading to the center. The wall is made up of cinder blocks; the total wall measurements are 18’ in height by 103’ in width. The end of the left side of the mural wall is curved.  

About the Mural  

The mural provides an opportunity to create an artistic overture for the center and the community. We encourage selected artist(s) to incorporate and celebrate the creativity and diversity of the Sunrise Mannor Community; and to also highlight the distinctive design features of the Hollywood Recreation Center, its story and activities. The mural has the potential to become an integral part of the Hollywood Recreation Center’s identity, contributing to an uplifting atmosphere for all who visit. 

About the Community:  

The Hollywood Recreation Center is located on the east edge of the Las Vegas Valley in Sunrise Manor, an area is known for its vibrant community and cultural and socio-economic diversity. This area is comprised of different types of households, where million-dollar homes, traditional single-family housing, apartment complexes, and trailer park communities are found. The Sunrise Manor community is very active and focused on outdoor activities, evident in the popularity of the Parks and Recreation facilities; this community also houses numerous elementary, middle-schools and high schools throughout. Additionally, a strong religious presence with many temples and churches found all around Sunrise Manor, including within a five-minute drive of the Hollywood recreation Center.  

About the Facility:  

The Hollywood Recreation Center opened in 2003, serving to this day as a regional hub for the East Las Vegas area. The center boasts approximately 50,000 square feet of indoor space, complemented by a 29,000 square foot skatepark and a sprawling 200-acre regional park, featuring a running trail, four soccer fields, and eight pickleball courts. Operating six days a week, the center hosts the largest after-school program in the county, offering over 70 classes each session, a fitness facility, and a full-sized gymnasium. While the center has a strong focus on youth programs, it also caters to all age groups, providing a state-licensed preschool, adult exercise and dance classes, as well as various activities and outings for seniors. The facility has become a staple in the community, fostering connections that span generations—with many families transitioning from participants to volunteers and finally to staff members. Though the Hollywood Recreation Center is located at the edge of Sunrise Manor, it remains the heart and soul of our community.
