Reno, NV – The Metro Gallery at Reno City Hall is hosting “Learning to be Lost,” a solo exhibition by 2022-23 Reno City Artist Rossitza Todorova. The show will run from June 19 to August 4, 2023, and will showcase new paintings by Todorova that embrace the metaphorical concept of being lost within the desert landscape.

The artist reception will take place on Thursday, July 13, 2023, from 5 – 7 p.m., and visitors will have a chance to engage with Todorova and learn more about her work. Admission to the exhibition is free, making it accessible to all community members.

Rossitza Todorova, a professional artist and Professor of Art at Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno, Nevada, has an interesting artistic journey that began when she emigrated from Sofia, Bulgaria, to Reno, Nevada, during her childhood. It was amidst the desert landscape that Todorova’s passion for this awe-inspiring environment was ignited, guiding the core of her artistic expression.

In her art, Todorova delves into the intricate interplay between the passage of time, space, and the intricate tapestry of memory. Her paintings are influenced by the Great Basin and the dynamic boom-and-bust built environment of the West, blending elements of landscape and geometry. In her work, Todorova blurs the boundaries between representation and abstraction.

“In this exhibition, I use the desert landscape as a metaphor for navigating life’s uncertainties. I invite viewers to contemplate their own paths, acknowledging the moments when goals and reality may diverge.
