FY19 Q2 JACKPOT GRANTEES
Nevada Arts Council awards 2nd quarter Jackpot Grants
The Nevada Arts Council has awarded $8,564 in Jackpot Grants for the second quarter of Fiscal Year 2019. Designed to support first-time or sudden opportunity arts and arts learning/education projects initiated by artists, teaching artists, schools, nonprofit organizations and public institutions, the grants were awarded for projects scheduled to occur between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31, 2018. The grants were first reviewed by a grants review panel on Sept. 25 and received final approval from the Nevada Arts Council Board of Directors on Sept. 28.
This quarter’s recipients, amount received, and projects are:
Andreana Donahue (Las Vegas): awarded $1,000 to support the creation of a new textile art piece, which will be a large-scale quilt that will be hand-pieced and hand-quilted in a re-interpretation of the traditional “Center Diamond” quilt pattern.
Arts for Children of Nevada (Genoa): awarded $897 to support the arts learning project “Mother Nature – Exploration into Nature’s Art and Music” which will provide children with an opportunity to explore nature through art and music.
For the Love of Jazz (Reno): awarded $850 to support a live jazz concert featuring international jazz pianist, Tamir Hendelman on Sunday, Nov. 18 in the Joe Crowley Theater on the University of Nevada, Reno campus.
Gig Depio (Las Vegas): awarded $1,000 to support printing, framing, transport and hanging materials for two upcoming exhibitions. The grant funds would also support a lecture at Carson High with their advanced painting class to talk about the importance of supporting alternative pathways for independent artists.
Jennifer Bellor (Henderson): awarded $1,000 to support the recording of their new composition “Cerulealina” for violin, cello, percussion, harp and bass.
Kim Palchikoff (Reno): awarded $1,000 to support the creation of a non-fiction, personal essay project which will consist of 5 stories, written about life with bipolar disorder, focusing on education, family issues, women’s issues, and other issues of the day.
Raja Rahman (Las Vegas): awarded $1,000 to support recording their first solo classical piano album Nov. 26-30 at Sono Luminus Studios in Bryce, Virginia.
Somerset Academy of Las Vegas (Las Vegas): awarded $1,000 to purchase “Build Your Own” ukulele kits for the men’s choir to utilize as part of the school’s choral and musical experience.
Wolf O’Rourc (Las Vegas): awarded $817 to support the production and publication of print and e-books as the center piece of the larger “Cyberspiracy” transmedia project during the month of October in Las Vegas, Nevada.
