The Nevada Department of Transportation and Visit Carson City invite Nevada schoolchildren to participate in a walk and bicycle safety art contest that will feature one winner’s art on a Carson City mural.
The contest invites Nevada schoolchildren grades kindergarten through 12th to submit original drawings raising awareness of road safety. Whether walking or biking to school, or using skates, skateboards or wheelchairs, bonus points will be awarded for artwork highlighting the health and safety benefits of active transportation.
The grand prize artwork will be painted on a mural in Carson City during the Carson City Mural and Music Festival in September.
All art must be drawn by hand (not computer or photo-generated) in watercolor, colored pencil, acrylic oil paint, marker, pen or crayon on an 11×17 or similar size piece of paper. Artwork should highlight traffic safety elements; one example is helmets for bicycle art.

The goal of the art contest is to inspire young people, and all Nevadans, to safely share the road.
The art contest is part of Nevada’s Safe Routes to School program, which provides training, infrastructure and resources for elementary schoolchildren to safely walk and bicycle to school. Walking and bicycling to school can reduce roadway congestion, and help improve air quality and health.
