National Call for Art – When in the Course of Human Events…

“When in the Course of Human Events…” The Bristol Art Museum invite artists to reflect on what follows this iconic opening line of the Declaration of Independence, and what it means to experience human events in our contemporary world. When in the course of human events, how do we respond to moments of upheaval or celebration?  What declarations do we make today—individually or collectively?

From personal milestones and shared cultural experiences to political movements and societal shifts, artists are encouraged to explore the moments that shape our collective story.

Working in any medium on paper or of paper, from drawing, painting, and printmaking to collage, photography, or experimental forms. Paper, like the documents that have historically recorded our past, serves as both a material and metaphor—a space for declaration, protest, remembrance, and hope.
