Nevada Arts Council awards 3rd quarter Jackpot Grants

CARSON CITY, Nevada – The Nevada Arts Council has awarded $8,316 in Jackpot Grants for the third quarter of Fiscal Year 2019.

Designed to support first-time or sudden opportunity arts and arts learning/education projects initiated by artists, teaching artists, schools, nonprofit organizations and public institutions, the grants are awarded for projects scheduled to occur between Jan. 1 and Mar. 31, 2019.

This quarter’s recipients, amount received, and projects are:

Big Four Educational Theatre Foundation (Las Vegas): awarded $1,000 to support artist fees for live musical accompaniment for their upcoming musical, “Assassins” running Jan. 18 through Feb. 3 at the Las Vegas Little Theatre.

Bonnie Kelso (Las Vegas): awarded $867 to support the creation of the story and artwork for a 24-page, full color picture book for children ages 3-8.

Cameron Crain (Reno): awarded $840 to support the creation of a new screenplay concept titled “We are Family” which is a family comedy about a Reno couple taking their blended family of 6 on a vacation to Hawaii.

Douglas Jablin (Las Vegas): awarded $927 to support production and editing of an original video documentary entitled “Balabustas,” about 12 prominent Nevadan Jewish women who have made significant contributions to enhance the quality of life for their communities.

Edward Fuentes (Las Vegas): awarded $833 to support his solo exhibition at the Riverside Art Museum in Riverside, California from Feb. 1 through March 21.

Joan Robinson (Boulder City): awarded $909 to help cover the costs of self-publishing her novel, “EarthSinger,” by March 1.

Joseph Galata (Reno): awarded $940 to support performance of his 70-minute original production “Papa, Come Dance With Me Again!,” at the SaraSolo solo theatre festival in Sarasota, Florida in January.

Making Music Matter Foundation (Las Vegas): awarded $1,000 to support artist fees for the conductors and principals of the ensemble in a concert on Feb. 23 at the Windmill Library in Las Vegas, which celebrates conductors, composers, and music inspired by Canada.

Nevada Women’s Film Collective (Las Vegas): awarded $1,000 to support the Nevada Women’s Film Festival, an annual film festival that features films by and about women. The festival is scheduled for March 21-24 at Eclipse Theaters in Las Vegas.

The grants were first reviewed by a grants review panel on Dec. 12 and received final approval from the Nevada Arts Council Board of Directors on Dec. 14.
