CELEBRATING BASQUE CULTURE

Basques and Buckaroos is the theme of the 2018 National Cowboy Poetry Gathering, a major program of the Western Folklife Center, an NAC grantee organization. During the early part of the NCPG week, the NAC Folklife Program will be documenting Basque cooking workshops (with DP Video Productions) for future Nevada Stories episodes. The Nevada Touring Initiative-Traveling Exhibition,  “Mountain Picassos: Basque Arborglyphs of the Great Basin” is featured in the Weigand Gallery at the WFC and, thanks to a grant from Nevada Humanities, exhibit artist Jean Earl will be on hand to talk about her decades of hunting and documenting Basque sheepherder tree-carvings.  To learn more about the arborglyphs or Basque culture in Nevada, watch Nevada Stories episodes “Hunting the Mountain Picassos” and “Euskal Jaiak: Celebrating Basque Culture.”
