Denise R. Duarte is a multidisciplinary, socially engaged artist. She received her Master of Fine Arts in Community Arts from Maryland Institute College of Art, where she received the College Teaching of Art Certificate.
She has facilitated numerous community art projects and eight public art projects. Duarte has received two Las Vegas Mayor's Urban Design Awards for Public Art. She was listed as an artist to watch on Creative Capital's On Our Radar, has been accepted on Seattle's Public Art Roster for the Office of Arts & Culture (juried), the Maryland State Arts Council Public Artist Roster (juried), the United States General Services Administration, Art in Architecture Program Artist Registry (pre-qualified), the City of San Antonio's Pre-Qualified List for Public Artists, and the ArtsWA Public Art Roster.
In Baltimore, she originated, developed, and taught the adult-facilitated afterschool youth art program Express Yourself!, which served LGBTQ+ youth. It provided participatory engagement in a safe and welcoming space for youth to explore their creativity and express themselves while gaining creative skill sets and the accompanying confidence of accomplishment, in addition to leadership and team-building skills.
Duarte's focus is the socially engaged art project: The Identity Center, a traveling, socially engaged, vibrant employee/participant art engagement activity that offers creativity, affirmation, or expansion of the participant's awareness of the diversity of humanity while providing the opportunity for dialogue in a community or corporate setting. This art activity establishes an individual's connectedness to others. It generates awareness, understanding and compassion while exploring the depth and beauty of an inclusive humanity.

Discovering Identity
Customized workshops include quilt blocks, community weaving, mosaics, sculpture, printmaking, and identity boxes. The Identity Center
workshops focus on personal identity discovery and expression and are created with age-appropriate themes. Other custom art workshops can focus on any
contemporary issue or topic and are designed to best explore the theme artistically. Workshops can include The Identity Center or creative place-making with temporary or permanent public artworks such as ceramic murals, mosaics, sculptures, or dimensional fiber art.
