Don’t catch a wink, visit our new show, Pink! The name of the color came from a flower called the garden pink in 1956. Before that, pink was used synonymously to wink and blink. It has signaled different expressions of gender and abstract ideas such as bravery, resistance, violence, and power. The artists in this exhibition chose to express themselves through the different symbolisms and iterations of pink. Some artists characterize pink as love for themselves and others, including their animal companions. Other works display nostalgia in all its warmth and comfort. Pink is also used as a false sense of comfort shrouding something more sinister. Alluding back to the garden pink, some artists chose to display their own interpretations of other pink flowers. No matter how you view it, the scene is pink and its here to stay.
The work in the show was selected by Lolita Develay, a Las Vegas-based artist specializing in painting. She received an Master of Fine Arts in painting from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2014. Develay explores themes of beauty, race, sexuality, and spirituality serving as a mirror to the complex state of American life.
