Acting Through Law Film Festival is a student-centered platform and showcase designed to demystify the film industry for Nevada high school filmmakers—particularly those without traditional access to Hollywood pipelines. Rooted in the belief that storytelling and industry literacy must develop together, the festival highlights student work while contextualizing it within the real structures that govern film: contracts, rights, labor, and distribution.
Unlike conventional youth festivals, Acting Through Law prioritizes transparency over glamour. Submitting filmmakers gain exposure not only for their creative work, but to conversations about how films actually move from script to screen. Through curated programming, industry commentary, and educational media, the festival positions young creators to understand their role not just as artists, but as professionals in an industry shaped by law and negotiation.
The festival is an extension of Acting Through Law, a media platform that has published 30 original pieces and conducted 15+ interviews with industry professionals across film, television, and entertainment law, reaching over 50,000 viewers across digital platforms. Founded by a then 15-year-old Milan Prete, Acting Through Law was built independently from the ground up, with all content written, edited, and produced in-house.
Why submit:
If you are a high school orator (in Nevada) or a student filmmaker (open to the nation) seeking more than a screening—seeking context, credibility, and a clearer understanding of how your work exists within the film industry—this festival was built for you!
