Las Vegas artist’s photography on display at LXS Gallery

CARSON CITY, Nevada – Las Vegas artist Christopher Tsouras, a grandson of Greek immigrants, has a longtime fascination with pre-classical Greek mythology.

That fascination, along with his deep interest in modern astronomy, are at the heart of Tsouras’ photography and mixed media exhibit that goes on display at the Nevada Arts Council’s LXS Gallery beginning Monday, February 27.

The gallery located across from the Caucus Deli on the first floor of the Nevada Legislature in Carson City and is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. During the 2017 Legislative session, the works of six Nevada artists will be featured.

Tsouras’ exhibit is the second in the series and will remain on display through March 17. Future exhibits include: March 20-April 7: Mixed media by Jen Graham, Reno; April 10-28: Paintings by Kathryn Grider, Spring Creek; May 1-19, Mixed media by Myranda Bair, Las Vegas; May 22-June 9: Paintings by Eyob Mergia, Las Vegas.

An instructor at the College of Southern Nevada for the past 25 years, Tsouras teaches fine art digital photography and art appreciation. His artwork has been exhibited widely throughout the U.S. and in Europe and has received numerous awards and honors.

Tsouras’ artwork reflects a meticulous dedication to photographic processes and is expansive in its intellectual and conceptual breadth. In this series of photographs, Tsouras reflects his interest and fascination with pre-classical Greek mythology and modern astronomy.

Tsouras earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from UNLV and was also awarded the Dorothy Liska Academic Scholarship from St. John Greek Orthodox Church. Studying at the University of Wisconsin- Madison, Tsouras earned a Master of Arts and was the recipient of the Henry Vilas Fellowship.

The Nevada Arts Council, a division of the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, was founded in 1967 as the state agency charged with ensuring that state and national funds support cultural activity and encourage participation in the arts throughout Nevada. The agency’s programs and services are designed to support creative expression, animate communities, diversify local economies and provide lifelong learning in the arts for all Nevadans. The Nevada Arts Council is funded by the State of Nevada, the National Endowment for the Arts, and other public and private sources.
